Donate a dog bed for the new shelter! We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our new facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.

Thinking about declawing your cat?
This invasive and painful surgery is not something the CCSPCA recommends. Read a vet's opinion on it here!

WORTH MENTIONING

Great news!
Construction has begun on our shelter! The above photo was taken June 6th. We are so excited and grateful for the support we receive from the community, and we need your help now more than ever. We continue to be a very small, all volunteer group and run solely on fundraising and donations. Without a shelter we've managed to take in (and find homes for!) more than 1000 cats and 500 dogs. Imagine what we can do with a real shelter! Thank you so very much to all who continue to support us. We couldn't do it without you! Huge thanks also to our 100% volunteer contractor - Robert Roy, and to Lynn Roy, Pierce's Plumbing, Keith's Building Supplies, Gentex Building Supplies, Southwest Concrete, Quickset Foundation, Dayle Chambers, Shamrock Truss, Gordie Cook, Stirling McNamara, Ronnie James, Dale Orr, Peter Vandergulik, Jamer Materials and all those who prefer to remain anonymous for their services and donations so far.

Want to volunteer?
We are looking for adult volunteers interested in helping at the cat shelter once per week. Cleaning cages, feeding, watering and playing with the cats is the "job" description and the "pay" is in cat kisses and purrs. Usually takes between 1-3 hours per week and training is provided. Please call or email if you are interested!

Need a gift idea?
How about making a donation to the CCSPCA in someone's name? You get the tax receipt (for donations over $10) and the recipient gets a lovely note, and the animals get help - everybody wins! Call or email for info today!

Thanks for your great initiative and support!

LOST DOG OR CAT?
Charlotte County does have an animal control officer - Mike Shannon. He is responsible for picking up dogs running at large in Charlotte County and stray or unidentified cats within the town of St. Stephen. If you have lost a dog or cat, your first call should be to him. His number is 466-5031. You should contact vet clinics in our area (St. Stephen and St. Andrews) - sometimes an animal can be injured and picked up by someone passing by and brought to a vet clinic further away than you would think your animal could travel. We also have a Lost and Found list, so you should contact us as well. Also check Petfinder.com's 'lost and found' section in their classifieds.

HOW TO ADOPT
Adopting a pet is a long term commitment. Dogs live 8-12 years while cats can live an average of 15-20 years. During the time you own a pet, you may change jobs, move, get married or divorced, or have children. Don't let one of these events cause you to abandon or give away a pet. Pets become extremely attached to their owners and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Avoid hurting and causing undue stress to a helpless animal. Before you adopt, please seriously consider the long-term commitment involved.

Please contact us by email if you are a long distance phone call away.

During the adoption process, we will ask you questions about you, your family and your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Our adoption policy requires potential adopters to meet the animals in person, which means that all potential adopters must come to St. Stephen, NB. We do not ship animals anywhere. No animals will be held without an approved application form and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees can be paid by cash, cheque or online (use the 'Donation' button below).

Dogs -
The first step in the dog adoption process is sending us the application form. The form is available for download here. Please print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Gail at 506-466-9950. We prefer to have the application form in hand prior to potential adopters meeting the dogs as this allows us to review the application and check necessary references. This way potential adopters can know if their application is approved before making the trip to meet the dogs.

Cats -
All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered before they leave the shelter. The form is available for download
here. You may print, fill out, and fax to the attention of Evie at 506-755-1327, or print in advance and bring to the shelter, or fill out at the shelter in person.

ADOPTION FEES
Cats have an adoption fee of $80 ($85 if paying with PayPal). This fee includes their spay/neuter, their rabies shot (if they are old enough), their first set of annual shots and a feline leukemia test for adult cats. Dogs and puppies are $100 ($110 if paying with PayPal), this also includes the animal's spay/neuter and first shots. Adopters may be responsible for their new animal's booster shots, if the animal has not been with us long enough to receive them. To pay by long distance through PayPal - please click on the 'Make a Donation' button directly below.

OUR NEW SHELTER
Currently, we have a very small, one-room cat shelter that can hold about 20 animals. We also rent kennel space in another location to hold our dogs. In the Spring of 2003 we officially started raising money to build a new, comprehensive shelter to house both cats and dogs. Our goal is $150,000. Check out our thermometer (above left) to see our fundraising progress! If you would like to help with this worthy goal, or have any fundraising ideas, we'd love to hear from you!
